Weight-loss expert Dr David Katz, director of the US-based Yale-Griffin Prevention Research Centre, is 53 and a father of five. He’s maintained his high school weight and has a six-pack. Here are his secrets. Use them to stay lean and fit no matter how busy your own life.
EXERCISE EVERY DAY
“Fitness enhances productivity in every way,” says Katz. He does 45-60 minutes of cardio (often on a cross-trainer) and body-weight exercises every day.
FIND ACTIVE PURSUITS
Katz walks his dogs several times a week, hikes, and rides horses at the weekend.
EAT WHOLE FOODS
Breakfast is mixed berries, wholegrain cereal and Greek yoghurt. Katz snacks on fruits and nuts in lieu of lunch. For dinner, he usually goes vegetarian with the occasional fish or chicken dish.
STAY VIGILANT
Katz tests himself by doing 20 chin-ups a few times a week. His logic: if you gain weight without gaining strength, it’s probably fat, and therefore the chin-ups would feel harder.
