Jaguar I-Pace 2018 Pricing And Specs Revealed

All-electric new car to counter Tesla - by Spencer Leech

British carmaker Jaguar has revealed its Tesla-rivaling all-electric I-Pace crossover ahead of its Australian debut in October with a starting price of $119,000 before on-road costs.

While Jaguar gave the first glimpse of the I-Pace at the Los Angeles motor show in 2016 as a concept, the recently unveiled production version appears to be nearly identical.

The I-Pace boasts signature Jaguar design cues, including prominent front grille, sleek headlights and an overall sporty look, while its mid-size SUV proportions and stance are not unlike the larger Tesla Model X – which could be considered its primary rival.

Jaguar uses a pair of electric motors designed in-house in the I-Pace to develop an overall output of 294kW of power and 696Nm of torque, which is sent to all four wheels.

The benchmark 0-100km/h sprint happens in just 4.8 seconds in the I-Pace, while a 90kWh lithium-ion battery enables a driving range of up to 480km.

In comparison, Tesla asks $132,000 for its base Model X 75D, which is 0.3s slower to 100km/h from a standstill and sports a driving range of around 417km.

Plugged in to a standard AC box, the Jaguar I-Pace can recharge up to 80 per cent in around 10 hours, while a 100kW DC outlet will cut that time down to just 40 minutes.

Suspension is handled by a double-wishbone set-up at the front and a tricky ‘Integral-Link’ rear set-up, with air suspension to be offered as an option, while the low-mounted battery pack gives the I-Pace a perfect 50/50 weight distribution.

The five-seat I-Pace also boasts a boot capacity of 656 litres, or 1453L with the rear seats folded.

Full pricing and detailed specifications are yet to be revealed, but the emissions-free Jaguar is available to order now in S, SE, HSE and First Edition guises before hitting local showrooms in October.
