August Netflix Highlight – Outer Banks: Season 5
The Pogues have never been lower. After losing their best friend JJ, who met his shocking end at the hands of his father in last season’s finale, the group are left to pick up the pieces. Traumatised and with no money and no home, the gang hits rock bottom – but they won’t stay there. The final season of Outer Banks will see the gang devise a plan to avenge JJ and take back what’s rightfully theirs.
On the movie front, Netflix’s headliner is The Whisper Man. Based on Alex North’s novel of the same name, The Whisper Man is a crime thriller starring Robert De Niro, Michelle Monaghan, Adam Scott and Michael Keaton. It follows widowed crime writer Tom Kennedy (Scott) and his eight-year-old son Jake, as they move to a quiet village in search of a new start. When Jake gets abducted, the author turns to his father, a retired police officer (De Niro), in his search for answers.
Hamnet is also set to make its streaming debut. The film received eight Oscar nominations and netted Jessie Buckley a win for Best Actress earlier this year. It centres on the death of William Shakespeare’s son, Hamnet, at the age of 11. It captures the writer and his wife’s grief, which ultimately compels him to write his magnum opus, ‘Hamlet’. While it is a work of historical fiction, Shakespeare really did have a son named Hamnet who died at age 11. It is probably better defined as historical speculative fiction.

An important piece in the new DCU continuity puzzle according to James Gunn, Lanterns sees new recruit John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) and veteran Lantern Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) investigate a murder in a small town in Nebraska.
