These Are The World’s 10 Most Popular Male Sportspeople

Cristiano Ronaldo edges out the competition to take the top spot for most searches around the world.

Given that we derive so much of our identity from the teams we support and the numbered jersey of our favourite player, it’s no wonder that in recent years, sports stars have amassed a following bigger than most Hollywood A-listers. From the basketball courts to the NFL and tennis court, today’s sports stars aren’t so much celebrities as they are some kind of demigod, possessing even the ability to leave stars like Leonardo DiCaprio and Jerry Seinfeld awe struck (just watch The Last Dance for evidence).

With the sort of athletic prowess and skill that sees their talent watched by audiences around the world, sports stars have transcended the field and become global names in their own right. But if you ever wondered just who ranked amongst the top as most searched for athlete, the good folks at SportsShoes.com have done the hard work for you. New research using Google data has shown just which sports stars are the most searched in different countries around the world. The results found that renowned footballer Cristiano Ronaldo topped the list of world’s favourite male sportspeople, having captured the hearts of people around the world. And if the latest news headlines are anything to go by, Ronaldo continues to exert incredible influence. Just recently at a press conference, his removal of Coca-Cola bottles that were placed before him saw the company’s market value drop by $4 billion.

Coming in second was NBA legend LeBron James, followed by Brazilian footballer Neymar. Though the most searched for female athletes depicted a heavy sway of MMA athletes, the list for males was more varied. Interestingly though, Tom Brady was the only American Footballer to feature on the list. Read on for the top 10 most searched for male sportspeople around the world for 2021.
