Thought self-love was a good pass-time? Well a new report has found that at least 100 people are dying from masturbation each year.

According to a German study, 100 people pass away from risky moves involved in rubbing one off. The research found that for every one million Germans, there are ‘one or two’ cases where dangerous props to increase stimulation during masturbation resulted in deaths. The most common cause was a lack of oxygen due to erotic asphyxiation.

Among the bizarre causes include Christmas tree lights clamped to a man’s nipples in an attempt to get off via electrocution. Investigators suggest that masturbation was the cause due to pornographic material being present. However, in many cases, the particular cause of death isn’t reported due to embarrassment.

Speaking to German publication Bild, forensic physician Dr Harald Voss says that not only are “the number of unreported cases extremely high” but most cases are men because women are far “more cautious and don’t incorporate so many intricacies.”
