HULK HOGAN passed away this morning at the age of 71, reportedly from a cardiac arrest.
Hogan’s magnetic, all-American ring persona made him one of the most popular figures in wrestling history. He helped transform the sport from niche entertainment to a global brand, and parlayed his prowess in the ring into an successful acting career.
The latter stages of Hogan’s life were marred by controversy. Most notably, his Peter Thiel-backed $100 million dollar lawsuit against Gawker following the publication of a sex tape ultimately resulted in that publication’s closure. He also came under fire in 2015 when he was caught on tape using racial slurs, which ultimately led to the termination of his contract with the WWE.
But despite all the controversy, an 80s-era wrestler making it to 71 is an achievement in its own right. Much of that generation of performers has long since passed, with Hogan standing as one of its last holdouts. Part of Hogan’s longevity can be attributed to him maintaining a rigorous workout routine and holistic diet into old age. Here, we take a look back at his regimen.
Hulk Hogan's workout routine
Back in 2023, Hogan gave Men’s Health US an idea of his fitness goals. “I’m gonna be 70 in August, and my fitness goal now is that when I’m walking on the beach with my girl with my shirt off, I want to look better than the 30-year-old guy next to me who thinks he’s the cock of the walk,” he said.
To reach that goal, Hogan kept to a strict workout routine. “Starting on a Monday I do chest and back. Tuesday I’ll do shoulders, a lot of cardio, a lot of ab work. Wednesday I do bi’s, tri’s, arms. Thursday I’ll do legs, of course. Then I may take a day off, or I may not.”
Hulk Hogan's diet
As part of Men’s Health US’ ‘Gym & Fridge’ series, Hogan provided a glimpse into his regular diet. “Everything in here is organic”, he said while opening his fridge. “These days, I try to eat really clean. I’ve kind of gotten away from the typical ‘eggs every day’ diet. I only hit the egg whites every three or four days. In the mornings I’ll hit the yoghurt and fruit, drink a couple cups of organic coffee, and get a workout in. Then I’ll eat a small amount of protein at lunch time.”
“I try to eat every three or four hours, then have a slightly larger meal at four or five o’clock in the afternoon,” Hogan continued. “Every once in a while, I’ll treat myself to a little bit of dairy-free ice cream. I run some businesses from the house, as well as Hogan’s Hangout nearby, so I stay really busy, and don’t slow down until around 7 or 8 p.m. But I have to be careful at night, because I turn into this monster… I just want to feed the beast! So I tend not to eat after the sun goes down.”
