WALTON GOGGINS is having quite the run. After a year in which he starred in both The White Lotus season three and Fallout season two, he’s still got more to come after the latter was renewed for a third season.
It’s hard to tell, but behind the extensive layers of special effects in Fallout, Goggins has a physique that has been built on decades of consistent training. “Fitness has been a part of my life for 32 years, since doing The Next Karate Kid when I was 21 years old,” he told Men’s Health US. “The training that [stunt coordinator] Pat Johnson put us through, it just radically changed my life. It really changed my relationship with my body and with my mind, and it’s been with me ever since.”
Nowadays, Goggins maintains his level of fitness with consistent weight training, running and a diet built around fasting. See everything he’s said about how he stays healthy below.
Walton Goggins' workout routine
Goggins maintains his physique with a mix of weights and cardio, using training as much for mental clarity as physical conditioning. “Since leaving Los Angeles and moving to the middle of the woods – we live on 125 acres – running has become a big part of my life,” he says. “I like running in the cold as much as I like running in the hot. And I couple that with weight training.”
More recently, he added a cable machine from Matrix Fitness to his home gym. “I’ve been acting for 30 years, and I’ve probably been on the road for 18 or 19 of those 30 years. So I know hotel gyms, that’s what I’m comfortable with, and this was a machine I’ve worked out on many times. It was very comforting to me, really.”
In a recent Instagram post, Goggins reflected on the shift from getting fit to staying fit. “When you get to that place in life where you’re not committed to getting in shape… but to staying in shape. Exercising has always been a part of my life. What is does for my mind and body… when you have a brain that’s this noisy you need all the help you can get!”
Training, he says, remains one of the few constants when work pulls him around the world. “I have a bar and I have a gym. And those two things are integral to my process as a storyteller,” he says.
That consistency extends to his wider approach to life. “Look, I like to drink and I like to party. And I like to work out and I like to meditate. I think: everything in moderation, including moderation. And part of that is getting my mind right without thinking about anything except lifting a heavy weight or a light weight. It focuses me, in a way, and it calms me down. It’s a recipe for longevity.”
Walton Goggins' diet plan
Speaking to US Weekly, Goggins admitted the diet he used to prepare for White Lotus diet was a bit extreme. The diet revolved around skipping breakfast and squeezing in mini-fasts multiple times per week.
“My White Lotus diet often centred around not eating until around one o’clock in the afternoon,” he said. “But I’m always like that when I work, and [I] only [have] two nine-minute boiled eggs.”
Goggins generally avoids carbs, so he swaps toast for a serving of healthy fats instead. “No bread, nine-minute boiled eggs with avocado. That’s what I do. And then a sensible dinner around five o’clock that involves some protein,” he said.
