ALAN RITCHSON HAS a physique envied by many, and has made it no secret that he previously used testosterone replacement therapy to pack on muscle ahead of Reacher filming. However, he has now revealed that he also cuts out alcohol in order to stay lean and healthy, while being able to push hard in the gym.
While on the Thomas DeLauer Podcast, Ritchson shared, “I don’t drink. I am six years sober now. And it’s my wife’s fault. I loved spicy margaritas and cherry vodka sours and anything that was sweet and delicious.”
Ritchson explained that with his lifestyle, it’s easy to get offered drinks wherever he goes, but he’s now happy to turn the tipples down: “Now, I’m glad that it’s not part of my life because the amount of hours I’ve saved and calories I’ve saved, like not recovering from that all the time, is great.”

This has had noticeable effects on his training performance, and also his physique. He explains, “That’s a big deal you know, because you start to see those results. So like the bloating, the water retention and all that starts to go away and you start to be like: I’m tightening up, my body is hardening.”
Ritchson has recently returned to our screens for Reacher season 3. Previously speaking to Men’s Health about preparations for season 2, he shared his experience of including testosterone therapy: “It definitely helps with muscle growth. If you take a little bit and then you work your ass off in the gym like you normally would, you’re going to see huge results.”
Whatever combination of training tweaks and tricks he includes, it’s clearly paying off.
