American tennis player Bethanie Mattek-Sands has sent shockwaves through Wimbledon after suffering a suspected dislocated knee cap.

The 32-year old slipped running towards a routine volley during her second-round clash with Romanian, Sorana Cristea.

Mattek-Sands immediately clutched her knee in agony, crying for help.

As the screaming continued, there was growing concern that the American had suffered a serious injury, which played out on live television.

“Help me! Help me please! I need help please! F***!”, Cried Mattek-sands as her opponent jumped over the net to offer support. “F*** it hurts, f***me it hurts. Have you given me any f***ing painkillers? These painkillers are not working.”

Medics rushed to her aid before carrying her off the court. An ambulance then escorted Mattek-Sands to the hospital.
