The Strength Moves Behind David Beckham's Lean Physique at 50

David Beckham’s latest post shows the simple strength moves behind his lean physique at 50

In a new Instagram clip, David Beckham leans on push-ups, pull-ups and simple strength work to stay lean, add muscle and keep aches at bay

David Beckham is looking – and feeling – stronger than ever. He may have spent two decades at the top of professional football, but at 50, he’s arguably in some of the best shape of his life, as shown in a recent workout shared on Instagram.

Training in his home gym, Beckham runs through a simple but effective mix of bench presses, single-arm dumbbell rows and push-ups – all staples programmed by his long-time trainer, Bobby Rich. In 2025, Beckham told MH that most of his sessions still revolve around two bodyweight basics: push-ups and pull-ups.

‘I hated pull-ups with a passion. I could literally only do two or three – three at most,’ Beckham said. ‘Bob decided to focus on press-ups and pull-ups. I hated both, and now we do them most days.’

The shift reflects a broader goal: staying lean, strong and pain-free. It’s a far cry from his playing days, when upper-body work barely featured in his routine. ‘The strength work that I do for my core and upper body helps with the backaches that I’ve got. When I was playing, the only strength work I did was on my legs. It was never really upper body,’ he said.

The results are clear. Beckham looks noticeably more muscular through the upper body, and he says he feels the difference, too.

‘I didn’t have pecs until I met Bob. You could say I’ve gone up a few cup sizes as a result. I never really had a desire to, either – I just wanted to be as lean as I could. But since retiring, I’ve put a bit of meat on my chest,’ he added.
