Everyone needs a style update from time to time, and now autumn’s in full swing it’s the perfect time to shake things up a bit. As Jeff Lack, Men’s Health Style Editor says, in summer ‘there’s only so much you can do’. But once the mercury drops, it’s game on to show your style. Not sure where to start? We asked Jeff to choose his edit of the key new looks for winter at The Iconic and the latest trends to bring your go-to style out of the dark ages.
Layer up
One of the keys to successful winter dressing is layering. It’s pretty straightforward but you’ll be amazed at the difference a few well considered layers can make to your overall look and comfort factor. A cotton tee under a collared shirt with a jacket lets you add or subtract as the weather or your day dictates. Too cold outside? Put a layer on. Too warm in the office? Layer off. Iffy weather forecast? Layers. As it turns out, when your mum said ‘take a jumper in case it gets cold’ she actually knew what she was talking about.
That textural feelin’
Winter’s a great time to experiment with different textures and some seriously touchable options are popping up on The Iconic this season. “Fall fashion favours the brave,” says Jeff, which explains why velvet is making a comeback. Corduroy is big this year and is a good sub for jeans or chinos when you want a warmer choice. It’s also a great fabric for a casual jacket you can throw on to add a relaxed structure to any outfit. But remember: when it comes to cord, it’s one at a time. Much like double denim we left corduroy suits back in the 1970s, and for good reason.
Leather is always on trend and is an investment you’ll thank yourself for down the track. Seriously stylish and comfy leather joggers are coming into stock now, and they’re a buttery soft essential you’ll want to live in. With a slouchy cut and jersey cuff they’re a go-anywhere, relaxed look that pairs well with a tee and bomber combo.
Fresh prints
You can change up your whole look with new prints and colours, and don’t be afraid to clash them. “Army green is a colour of the moment,” says Jeff. It’s practically a neutral, so work it with your tees and trainers for an on-trend casual look. Ditto for camo print, which is showing up in pants, jackets, tees and accessories.
Paisley is back and is a great option if you’re looking for something a bit different that makes a statement away from your stock-standard block colours, checks or stripes. Florals are a unisex trend that shows a universal shift to bold prints and polos bearing prominent logos are similarly on trend.
Classic kicks
The great news is that winter footwear for men is centred around trainers, and a couple of pairs in black, white and the on-trend army green (or a bright colour if you’re feeling it) should see you through day and night. For a dressier occasion, the office or the races, the classic leather loafer or brogues will take you anywhere you want to go.
So, don’t hibernate over winter, get onto The Iconic and find your new look. With next day delivery for most metro areas, you’ll can get your winter wardrobe sorted and be ready for anything the new season brings.
