Here’s Your First Look At Henry Cavill For Apple’s New Upcoming Spy Thriller

It’s certainly a different look for Superman.

So much of an actor’s work is reinvention. Those performances that perhaps transcend the screen and stay with us long after we’ve left the cinema are those that feature a transformation of sorts, that position an actor in a role so believable that we can’t help but think they were born to play such a part. When it comes to Superman, it’s hard to imagine anyone that’s not Henry Cavill playing the part. With that impossibly defined jawline, charisma and gym-honed body, we can only assume it was Cavill’s role to play since birth. But for fans of the actor, know that his next role presents something of a departure.

Sharing a sneaky teaser of its upcoming spy movie, Argylle, Apple revealed what fans can expect to see of Cavill in the new role. The movie is an adaptation of the upcoming spy novel of the same name by Ellie Conway, with Cavill starring as the world’s greatest spy, who also just happens to have amnesia – not the best mix for such a profession, we’d assume.

His condition leads him to believe that he’s an author who simply specialises in writing spy thrillers, rather than a real spy himself. Naturally, such a mix-up leads to hilarity and entertaining viewing for the benefit of audiences.

The image shows Cavill decked out in an emerald velvet suit jacket and pants, looking ever the sartorial stylist most have come to know of Cavill off-screen. He’s locked in an intimate embrace with Dua Lipa’s character, with the singer set to make her film debut while also providing all the music for the film. In the background, people can be seen drinking in a booth with dimmed, red lighting.

Apple is certainly looking to pack a punch with this film, recruiting a sizeable all-star cast. The film also stars Peacemaker’s John Cena, Jurassic World’s Bryce Dallas Howard, Samuel L Jackson, Catherine O’Hara of Schitt’s Creek, Bryan Cranston, Ariana DeBose of West Side Story and Sam Rockwell.

According to reports, Apple has signed the project as a one-movie deal, but it could be the case that Argylle launches an entire new franchise for the streaming platform as it looks to compete with the likes of Netflix, Binge and Disney Plus. Matthew Vaughn, creator of the Kingsman, is serving as director and declared that the new spy thriller will “reinvent the spy genre”.

“I’m thrilled to team with Apple and bring the most compelling spy thriller I’ve ever read to the only streaming service that can create a franchise of this scale and quality for global audiences to experience,” said Vaughn about the deal with Apple. “When I read this early draft manuscript I felt it was the most incredible and original spy franchise since Ian Fleming’s books of the ‘50s. This is going to reinvent the spy genre.”
