REMEMBER LIL JON? The rapper was a megastar in the 2000s and early 2010s, with hits like ‘Turn Down For What’, ‘Yeah’ and ‘Get Low’, but he’s dropped off the map over the last decade or so. Turns out, he’s been spending his time getting jacked in the gym.
Earlier this month, Lil Jon competed in the annual Muscle Beach championship in Venice Beach, California. Not only did he compete, the 54-year-old came away with the third place prize in the Men’s Physique Master’s Over 45 category.
In an interview, Lil Jon said that the achievement means a lot, but the real win has been changing his lifestyle. “It’s been a lot physically, just in the gym, dedication, eating, focus. I’m winning just by being here and changing my lifestyle, mentally and physically,” he said.
“One of the things I hope is that I can be an inspiration to so many people who say, ‘Oh, I don’t have time. I can’t do it.’ If I can do it, then you can do it too.”
It appears that Lil Jon wasn’t even at his best during the contest. He shared a workout video on Instagram a week later with the caption: “1 WEEK AGO I WAS COMPETING. I WASNT EVEN WHERE I WANTED TO BE BODY WISE BUT DID IT ANYWAY! IM WAYYYY LEANER THIS WEEK! WORK DONT STOP!! THIS IS A LIFESTYLE CHANGE.”
Caps have not been added for emphasis, Lil Jon just types – and often speaks –that way.
The rapper has also revealed that while he does spend a lot of time in the gym, the secret to losing weight and staying in shape has been maintaining a good diet. When he’s in the gym, he loves to use a treadmill as a fat burner. “Incline 15. Speed 2-3mph. It’ll melt the fat off your body. Do it, do it, do it. Yeah!” he said on Instagram.
