A Rare Look At Lionel Messi's Offseason Training

Lionel Messi’s wife just shared a rare look at his offseason training

The soccer legend is hard at work prepping for the 2024 season.

WITH TWO MONTHS to go until soccer season starts again, Argentine legend Lionel Messi is busy back in training… with his wife’s booty coach.

A gym video captured by Messi’s wife Antonela Roccuzzo and shared to her Instagram Story with the caption “chin ups” has blown up online, as it offers fans of the soccer legend a rare behind-the-scenes glimpse at his training routine. But while Messi has indeed been working out with the Miami, Florida-based physical therapist and self-advertised “Glute Guy” Bret Contreras, his butt has not been the focus of their sessions.

He might be an athlete whose success on the pitch relies on him putting in the lower-body work and cardio, but Messi is not neglecting overall fitness and functional strength, so he has also been torching his upper body. His lats and traps, specifically.

The workout clip shows him at the pull-up bar, wearing a dip vest with a plate between his legs, performing an effortless-looking set of weighted chin-ups.

While he’s currently putting his focus on the upcoming season and the 2024 Copa América championship, Messi hasn’t ruled out playing once again in the 2026 World Cup in North America, after winning a qualifying match against Brazil with Argentina’s national team in November. (That is, if they make it through the additional qualifiers against Chile, Colombia, Peru, Venezuala and Bolivia next fall.)
