Inside Our Exclusive Evening With Racing Icon Mark Webber

Last Thursday night, on the eve of the since-cancelled Australian GP, the Men’s Health team descended on the recently refurbished BOSS Collins St Store to launch the Exclusive PORSCHE x BOSS capsule collection. The night was a welcome distraction from the issues facing the world at the minute, with an upbeat special guest and face of the collection, Mark Webber, joining us for an in-store Q&A with guests.

Mr Webber, a nine-time formula one grand prix winner, is arguably one of motorsport’s most popular and high-profile stars. A true Aussie legend who, despite the glamorous trappings and lifestyle of F1, has stayed true to his laid-back Aussie roots and traditions.

These days life is a touch slower for Webber, who wore a white slim-fit polo shirt with Lustrous Trims on the night. Although he’s still getting behind the wheel as a Porsche global ambassador and dipping his toes into fashion with this latest Porsche x BOSS capsule collection. The only downside, he says, is having mates hit him up for free designer clothes.

“’That looks really great’, they say. Well it won’t look good on you!” Webber jokingly shoots back. “I wind them up. It’s elegant, it’s not showy, it’s just really classy and works.”

And he’s not wrong. The collection itself defies rational logic; something so aesthetically pleasing shouldn’t feel as comfortable as this range does. It’s literally as though you’re wearing the clothing equivalent of a Porsche 919.

We were lucky enough to feature Mark in the pages of Men’s Health last year as part of an exclusive interview, so it was an incredible honour to play host and dig a little deeper into both his career and new ventures on stage. No question was off limits as rivalries were exposed, near death experiences were relived, and the future of racing and fashion was explored.

The night was a real celebration of German design and performance with a special BOSS fashion presentation of the new PORSCHE x BOSS collection kicking off the formalities. Guests were treated to a Chivas Regal tasting bar set up, experiencing their delectable 15 year old & 18 year old scotch whisky, and a Pommery tasting bar to sample the finest in French champagne.

As a sporting fan, it was a true honour and career highlight to host such an incredible event Australia’s home of sport and fashion, in partnership with some of the world’s most iconic brands and athletes.

Enormous thanks must go to the BOSS team for hosting such a great event, to Mark Webber for such an open and honest chat, and to everyone who attended. For what may be our final event for some time, we couldn’t have hoped for a better send off.
