The Biggest Style Trends For The 2019 Melbourne Cup

The only thing better than winning big at the Melbourne Cup is looking the part. So while you study the form guide, be sure to leave some time to read up on the latest trends. Fortunately, it’s easier than you think, courtesy of Pinterest.

The photo-sharing site has crunched the numbers and it looks like going bold is back.

Pants are the big statement piece people are talking about this year with cropped trousers seeing a 671 per cent increase in searches. Shaving a bit of length off gives you the chance to show off a pair of statement socks or a bit of ankle. But remember: if you’re small in stature, avoid socks that differ in colour from your pants. Wearing contrasting colours creates a break in length, emphasising your height (or lack of).

Another hot trend that has skyrocketed in 2019 is plaid. Whether you want to focus on the bottoms, the jacket or the whole suit, lumberjack vibes are the flavour of the year. Searches for plaid are up 267 per cent so you definitely won’t look out of place.

What’s a suit without accessories? In the past we’ve seen pocket squares and floral ties dominate trackside. And don’t get us wrong, we’re still big fans. But this year, there’s a huge focus on wrist wear. Punters are turning to throwback watches with searches up 98 per cent.
