NEW BALANCE has officially released the FuelCell Rebel v5, the latest iteration of its acclaimed Rebel series. The shoes are designed to look and feel fast, catering to runners looking for a blend of lightweight performance and daily training versatility.
The Rebel v5 introduces a PEBA and EVA-blended FuelCell midsole, delivering enhanced energy return and a responsive ride. With a stack height of 35mm at the heel and 29mm at the forefoot, and a 6mm drop, the shoe offers a balance between cushioning and ground feel. Despite the increased cushioning, the men’s size 9.5 still only weighs around 225 grams, which is a testament to its lightweight profile.
New Balance Design Director Andrew Nyssen said that “The mantra ‘look fast, run fast’ guided our design process,” with “intelligent tweaks to geometries and stack heights, resulting in a snappier ride without compromising on comfort.”
We previously tested the New Balance FuelCell Rebel v4 and found it to be one of the best lightweight trainers on the market. Its low profile allowed for the ideal amount of ground feel while maintaining a level of responsiveness that makes it easy to pick up the pace. In our opinion, the Rebel v4 is best used for fast-paced training sessions, tempo runs and interval training. Essentially, when you want your training runs to go a little faster, the Rebel is the shoe you should reach for. We expect the Rebel v5 to fit a similar spot in our rotation, but with more cushioning and a reworked midsole, it should be even more comfortable.
The Rebel v5 is currently only available in a limited-edition colourway, with a broader range of colour options set for a general release on July 1. For runners in Australia, the FuelCell Rebel v5 can be purchased through New Balance’s website and select retailers.
