IT’S THE END of the financial year, which can either be a time of belt tightening or a financial windfall, depending on where you stand with the ATO. Either way, it’s a good time to review your streaming subscriptions. Has Netflix done enough to survive another month on your bank statement? Or, alternatively, have new Apple series earnt the platform a place in your rotation? The ongoing streaming wars have created a competitive landscape, and as such, every month sees the big streamers battling for market share with blockbuster films and new hit series. July will be no different.
July will see some of the biggest films of 2026 make their streaming debuts. There’s The Drama over on HBO Max, plus The Devil Wears Prada 2 on Disney+ – or, if you’re still catching up on last year’s big hits, Sinners is making its way to Netflix. There’ll be popular new shows, too. Silo’s third season is coming to Apple TV; there’s a new Little House adaptation on Netflix; and The Hawk is set to end Happy Gilmore‘s monopoly on the golf comedy.
In any case, it’s a good time to have a streaming subscription. But the new content is arriving in such quantities that choosing what to watch becomes its own challenge. That’s where we come in. July Netflix Highlight – The Hawk
Golf comedy is a well-worn fairway. You would think that Happy Gilmore and it’s 2025 sequel would have already squeezed all of the juice from that lemon. But if there’s anyone we trust to bring an entertaining new perspective to the genre, it’s Will Ferrell. The Hawk will see Ferrell play Lonnie ‘The Hawk’ Hawkins, who was the world’s number one golfer back in 2004, but is now fighting to maintain some relevancy. He’s also navigating life with his ex-wife Stacy (Molly Shannon) and his son Lance (Jimmy Tatro), who just so happens to be golf’s new top dog.
If you prefer your comedy in the form of a film rather than a series, check out 72 Hours. It stars Kevin Hart as an out of touch executive who is accidentally added into a group chat with three Gen Zers planning a bachelor party in Miami. He decides to gate crash the party, and as you’d expect, hilarity ensues.
If you grew up watching the original nine-season run of Little House on the Prairie, you’ll want to get the nostalgia going with a new adaptation of Ingalls Wilder’s classic books. The new Little House series, which has already been renewed for a second season, reimagines it’s source material as a family drama, epic survival tale and origin story of the American West.
Lastly, if you still haven’t seen Sinners, now is the time. Ryan Coogler’s film, which won four Oscars earlier this year, is finally coming to Netflix on July 4. The vampire tale follows two twin brothers (both played by Michael B. Jordan, who won Best Actor for the dual roles) who return to their Mississippi hometown to start anew, only to find that an even greater evil is waiting to welcome them back.

July Disney+ Highlight – Pompeii: Out of Time With Tom Hiddleston
The eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D. completely obliterated the city of Pompeii and surrounding Roman settlements. In this three-part National Geographic docuseries, Tom Hiddleston explores Pompeii’s final hours. You might be wondering what qualifies Hiddleston to front such a series. Well, the actor studied classics at Cambridge University, so that’s something. Expect reenactments, expert’s opinions and commentary from Hiddleston.

July Apple TV Highlight – Silo
In case you missed the first two seasons of Silo, here’s a quick refresher: it’s set in a dystopian future where 10,000 people live in a 144-level underground silo. The silo has some strict rules its residents have been told are in place to protect them. The thing is, none of them actually know why they live the way they do. Their historical records were destroyed during a failed uprising 140 years earlier.
The story is told in two settings: the present, and centuries earlier. Season three will continue the saga, with present protagonist Juliette Nichols (Rebecca Ferguson) surviving her forced ‘cleaning’ but suffering from memory loss as the silo recovers from rebellion and faces a new threat. In the ‘Before Times’, journalist Helen Drew (Jessica Henwick) and Congressman Daniel Keene (Ashley Zukerman) uncover a conspiracy that could have irreversible consequences.
