Nike Zoom Pegasus Turbo Review | Men's Health Magazine Australia

First Look: Nike Zoom Pegasus Turbo

On 6 May 2017, Eliud Kipchoge ran the fastest marathon in history, covering the 26.2 miles in 2 hours and 25 seconds. Armed with a pair of Nike Zoom Vaporfly Elite, and despite his almost superhuman efforts, Kipchoge and Nike’s #Breaking2 project fell just short of what they set out to achieve: the first sub two-hour marathon in history.

351 days later, Mo Farah ran the London Marathon in the Nike Zoom Vaporfly Elite Flyprint, a cousin of Kipchoge’s Vaporfly Elite, cruising through the miles in an almost comfortable 2:06:21.

All of which is undeniably, bewilderingly impressive. But what does it mean for the less high-profile runner? It’s a question at the heart of Nike Running’s latest effort — to create a running shoe that houses that magic of the Vaporfly 4% — Nike’s ultralight and uber-responsive shoe, purposely built to help marathoners run their best race — that is more approachable for the average runner.

The result is the Nike Zoom Pegasus Turbo, which shares more traits with Kipchoge and Farah’s record-breaking trainers than you’d first expect. In fact, the Nike Zoom Pegasus Turbo houses the same responsive ZoomX foam, meaning that high performance and comfort needn’t be something reserved for the world’s running elite.

Weighing in at 238g (UK size 10), delivering a massive 85 per cent energy return – that’s more than any Nike shoe available – these shoes will help you gain more energy from your stride, enabling you to run at your very best.

We don’t blame you if you think this all sounds a little too good to be true, though. So, in his own words, allow Eliud Kipchoge of earth-shattering marathon world record fame, to talk you through what the Nike Zoom Pegasus Turbo means to him.

“The beauty of the Pegasus Turbo is the foam used to make the sole. It’s really light, and it absorbs all the impact from the ground,” says Kipchoge. “You can train comfortably without worrying.”

Similarly, the Nike Zoom Pegasus Turbo is designed with your muscles in mind. “I mainly use Peg Turbo for my long runs, especially for 30km or more. The reason is the foam allows my muscles to really recover fast – very fast. The Peg Turbo helps me get the most from my training,” he says.

“So that when the race arrives, I just fly.”

The Nike Zoom Pegasus Turbo will be available from August 2nd on Nike.com.au/ and select retailers..
