WHAT DO YOU do when showing off 60lbs (27kg) worth of weight loss? Stand in the Utah countryside in nothing but your underwear and a cowboy hat, obviously. That’s exactly what US rapper Post Malone did when flaunting his trimmed-down physique as part of a campaign for Kim Kardashian’s Skims brand.
At his heaviest, Post Malone weighed 240lbs (108kg), with the musician having picked up unhealthy habits while touring. Now, he weighs less than 185lbs (84kg), and feels much more confident stripping down to just his underwear for a photoshoot. ‘It was really a lot of fun, it made me feel like a handsome son of a bitch,’ he told GQ.
Since first embarking on his weight-loss journey, following the birth of his daughter in May 2022, Post Malone has managed to lose 60lbs (27kg). He increased his daily physical activity, though improving his diet proved a larger part of his approach – which involved totally cutting out fizzy drinks. ‘Soda is so bad. It’s so good but so bad,’ Postie said on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast in 2023. ‘[If] I had a great show, and you know what, I’m feeling a little bit naughty. I’m gonna have myself a Coke on ice.’
The science backs up his approach. A study published in the journal Nutrients found that replacing one sugary drink with water was enough to reduce participants body weight and improve their overall health. The 30-year-old also made a conscious effort to eat healthier while on tour, while also discovering how useful hot sauce was to manage his cravings.
‘The first step, I remember I went on tour, and I was like, you know what? I’m gonna eat grilled chicken, I’m gonna eat carrots, and I’m gonna have a little bit of white rice every night,’ he told US radio host Howard Stern in 2023. He added, ‘Hot sauce has no calories in it. I was blown away. I was like wait, what the fuck is actually going on? Hot sauce has no calories in it, this shit is sick. I get it. I lost 20 pounds doing that. And I was like, let’s keep going, let’s keep building, and we just kept fucking rocking and rolling.’
