Sylvester Stallone may be approaching his 80s, but he’s still putting in serious work in his home gym. In a recent Instagram post, the actor – who turns 80 in June – shared a video of himself training, alongside the caption: ‘Every year it gets harder and harder, but that’s why you gotta push harder and harder. Blood, sweat and tears.’
The clip shows Stallone’s tattooed biceps before panning to a punch bag, as he reflects on what training now means to him. ‘I haven’t done a video from the gym in a long time,’ he says. ‘But it’s kind of like a sanctuary, a church, where you pray to get better, to feel better physically. So you have the strength to arrive at your goals really confident and ready to face any challenge. Anyway, keep punching.’
Fans were quick to praise Stallone for looking in such strong shape for his age. In the rare post, however, the emphasis wasn’t on aesthetics or intensity, but consistency. A message that feels particularly timely as we pass the second Friday in January, often dubbed ‘Quitters Day’ – the point at which many people abandon their New Year’s resolutions.
While many of us have attempted to recreate a Rocky-style montage at some point, training has long been central to Stallone’s career, particularly during the Rambo era. In recent years, his workouts appear to have dialled back from those peak-intensity days, but he’s clearly far from finished. The message now is less about going harder than everyone else – and more about showing up, year after year.
