The Active Man’s Guide to Bali

Because when it comes to your health, what happens in Bali doesn’t stay in Bali.

Fitness and holidays don’t sound like they belong in the same sentence. But if you’re a Men’s Health reader, chances are that even though you do like to take a break from everything while you’re on annual leave – staying fit and healthy is still a priority.

From state-of-the-art gyms to healthy, forward-thinking food destinations, you’ll have no problem maintaining your healthy lifestyle during your Bali visit, you just have to find fun ways to do it.

Take a hike

With such a variety of landscapes, from iconic paddies and unspoiled rainforest to plantations and villages, Bali is a walker’s dream. This relatively compact and densely populated island is not suited to epic multi-day treks, but the range of day hikes and weekend treks will certainly keep you on your toes.

Hit the water

Bali has a lot to offer when it comes to the beauty and experiences. And with the long sandy coastline and calm blue waters, one of these experiences are the expansive list of watersports that you can indulge in. Whether you are a beginner or a water sports junkie, you’ll be surprised how much of a workout they can be.

Ask the experts

Bali’s palm tree-fringed shores and sun-drenched beaches are home to some incredible martial arts gyms. The depth of training available in classes and 1-1 sessions is of an extremely high standard that is sure to impress any visitor. So whether you’re a pro-MMA fighter or a beginner wanting to have a taste of training, make sure you hit up a Bali martial arts gym while you’re on the island to get a new thrill.

Stay smart

Another great tip is to really evaluate where you’re planning on staying when you get to Bali. A lot of resorts offer some great activities that you can incorporate into your holiday fitness plan – our best advice would be to go all inclusive to avoid additional fees.

Club Med Bali, an all inclusive resorts just 30 minutes drive from Denpasar’s Ngurah Rai International Airport (12km from Kuta Island), spans over half a mile along the beach, holding the title of the longest resort beachfront in Nusa Dua. What this means is that alongside all their on-land activities, they offer a range of water activities too (all included in the one price).

The activities on offer all throughout your stay, as well as competitions on certain days if you’re really keen, include everything from yoga, golf, soccer, volley ball, squash, tennis and surfing, to trapeze, archery, kayaking, water aerobics and, of course, a gym.

Faultless footy, cutting-edge cars, and an atmosphere like no other: a weekend in Adelaide for Gather Round

If there’s one thing Adelaide is known for, it’s turning it on when major events and festivals come to town. During the 2024 edition of the AFL’s Gather Round – otherwise known as the festival of footy – the city didn’t disappoint. Men’s Health was on the ground to soak it all up, exploring the city in select Toyota vehicles. Similar to the round itself, the cars from the AFL’s premier partner live up to the hype.
