YES, WE ARE still more than one month away from Halloween, but spooky season has already well and truly commenced. If you don’t feel like the vibes are right yet, we know just the thing to get you in the mood – an array of Halloween fodder that you can stream over the next month. Or, if you’re simply not a Halloween type of guy, there are still plenty of reasons to settle down for a night in, cosied up on your couch with snacks nearby and a plethora of top-notch streaming content to get through, because as we’ve always argued so vehemently, there’s never really a bad time to do so.
As the weather is getting hotter, so too is the content coming to streaming services this October. The much-derided Australian reboot of The Office is about to premiere on Amazon Prime, so expect some discourse. Territory will soon announce itself as Australia’s answer to Yellowstone over on Netflix. Budding auteur Dylan River’s latest series Thou Shalt Not Steal is heading to stan. And of course, every streaming platform is bolstering its arsenal of horror movies and Halloween classics to prepare for the 31st.
The vast swaths of new content don’t make it easy for you though. The big hitters like Netflix, Disney+ and Amazon Prime are so packed with must-watch films and shows that it can be difficult to discern what’s worth your time and what’s best left on the backburner – especially when you’re prone to indecision and are paying for the luxury of choice with subscriptions to multiple platforms.
Not to worry though, Men’s Health has you covered. To help you avoid being paralysed with indecision during a dreaded doomscroll, we’ve rounded up all the very best films and shows coming to streaming platforms in October 2024.
What’s new on Netflix Australia, October 2024
October Netflix Highlight – Territory
Brace yourself, because Netflix is in for a massive month this October. Headlining the waves of new content heading to Netflix is Territory, which as far as we can tell is essentially an Australian version of Yellowstone. Set deep in the Australian outback, the world’s largest cattle farm is left without an obvious successor. A Succession-style dispute ensues, while powerful factions including miners, landowners, cowboys and gangsters prepare for a hostile takeover.
Also on Netflix in September, your hunger for Halloween vibes will be sated by both Lisa Frankenstein and Late night With The Devil, two of the buzziest horror films of the year. Basketball fans will find a bingeworthy new series in Starting 5, which follows five NBA superstars throughout the course of the 2023-24 season. The featured athletes include LeBron James, Anthony Edwards and Jayson Tatum. Finally, the first part of the fourth season of polarising drama series Outer Banks will premiere on October 10th.

What’s new on Amazon Prime Video Australia, October 2024
October Amazon Prime Video Highlight – The Office Australia
The Australian reboot of The Office has already received scathing reviews online, but can we at least agree to give it a chance? At the end of the day, this is an Australian cast and crew getting their big chance and they deserve a shot, even if this is the 13th iteration of a series that has already had its time in the sun and the trailer’s jokes came off as far more cringeworthy than comedic. In this rehash of the typical The Office mould, a classically out of touch office manager – the first female character to fill the standard Michael Scott role in any iteration – is devastated to learn that her branch is being shut down in the wake of the COVID pandemic. Determined to keep her work family together as staff are ordered to work from home, Felicity Ward’s Hannah Howard goes to great lengths to promote staff bonding.
