Aussie All-Rounder Cameron Green On Timing And Test Cricket

Aussie all-rounder Cameron Green on the connection between timepieces and test cricket

Men's Health joins the star cricketer in his hometown to celebrate his recent signing with storied watchmaker, Rado

IN ANY SPORT, timing is critical. So, it stands to reason that eminent watch brands and global sporting events go hand in hand. In June 2023, luxury Swiss watchmaker, Rado, became the first official timing partner of the England and Wales Cricket Board across a multi-year deal. For the last two northern summers, the brand has ensured timekeeping accuracy across all international fixtures for England men’s and women’s cricket.

Earlier this year, Rado upped the ante and tapped star Aussie all-rounder, Cameron Green, as its newest ambassador. It’s a smart choice; the 25-year-old talent is hugely popular not just locally but across both the UK and India, where he was signed to the Mumbai Indians ahead of the 2023 IPL season. And while Green won’t join the Australian test team this summer as he recovers from recent spinal surgery to treat a stress fracture, the all-rounder is working hard on his rehab with the aim of a return to the game after the summer.

To celebrate his signing, Rado hosted an intimate dinner in Green’s hometown of Perth earlier this month. Here, he chatted with Men’s Health openly about the sport, his recent surgery and the unwavering family support that has helped him succeed so early in his cricketing career. Green was also presented with a new Rado timepiece – the Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic Skeleton, which retails for a cool $7,450.

It’s the latest release in the brand’s popular Captain Cook family and showcases a matt black ceramic case designed to be ultra lightweight and comfortable – as Green joked, it’s ideal for Perth’s searing heat. Elevated with a rose gold turning bezel, indexes and hands, the watch strikes the right balance between sporty and smart. It will star on Green’s wrist in Rado’s newest campaign across the Australian summer of cricket.

Green says it’s Rado’s “creativity and innovation” that drew him to the partnership initially. “In cricket, you need to continuously improve and adapt to stay at the top of the game – and that’s what I see from Rado,” he explains. “With my schedule, which is pretty relentless and involves a lot of travel, I need a watch that’s comfortable and durable but one that is also stylish. I know I can get all of these things in a Rado.”

Watchmaking and cricket might seem poles apart, but Green disagrees, adding that they “have more in common than you might think.” He cites precision, attention to detail and passion as key similarities, along with heritage and innovation. He concludes: “I appreciate how Rado watches combine quality and design. Their watches not only look great, but also offer amazing performance, which makes them an all-rounder that I can wear anywhere.”

And while we won’t see Green out at the crease in a timepiece (over dinner, he explained that any accessory, however light, can throw things off balance) he’s rarely without one off the field. “With my busy schedule, playing three formats of a demanding game, time is everything,” he concludes. “I need to ensure that my preparation and training for games is meticulous and that every second is used effectively.”
