The Standout Pieces From The Phillips Geneva Watch Auction XIII

Big money.

Held in two phases, one for each day of this past weekend, Phillips’ Geneva Watch Auction XIII was a long-awaited event for watch lovers – and not only did they come en masse, but they came ready to spend.

Phillips managed to sell every single lot on offer, with most beating their estimate, sometimes soundly.

“And now, the big collectors start to get serious!” Aurel Bacs, the main auctioneer at Phillips Geneva Watch Auction XIII, exclaimed as a Cartier timepiece surpassed $300,000.

While this year’s first watch auction remained mostly virtual, it was no less exciting. Bidders from across the world and in the room raised their paddles over the course of 200-plus lots, dropping sometimes eye-popping sums for the best that horology has to offer.

Check out some of the highlights below.

Patek Philippe Nautilus

Mulitple modern Nautilus models reached never before seen prices, including a classic Ref. 5711P which fetched over AU$800,000 and a fully iced Ref. 5719/1G which reached nearly AU$500,000.

Cartier Tank Asymetrique “Jumbo”

This limited edition model from 1996, which was limited to just 150 examples, is a little bit chicer than the Cartier Crash and is a nice example of Cartier’s ability to play with shapes. It sold for approximately $53,000.
