The best Adidas running shoes of 2025, ranked

The big-name brand has delivered some big-name shoes recently. We break down which one is most deserving of your spend

SINCE ITS FOUNDATION, Adidas has always been recognised as one the best producers of running shoes on the planet. Excluding perhaps only Nike, there may not be a more respected running brand – and that reputation has been hard earned.

Over the years Adidas has outfitted Olympic champions, record breakers, world-famous athletes and unbeatable superstars. In the performance footwear category it can’t be beaten, and the top athletes take notice. This then has a trickle down effect, as we regular folk inevitably want to be wearing the same shoes as our sporting heroes.

It is true that running in Adidas shoes can give you that Olympic champion feeling, but every brand has hits and misses. And not every shoe, no matter how good the reviews say it is, will be right for you. It pays to be discerning when choosing your next running shoe, which is why we’re here to help you navigate what is deserving of your hard-earned coin and what is best left on the shelves at Foot Locker by ranking the best Adidas shoes you can get in 2025.

What are the best Adidas running shoes?

10. Adidas 4DFWD 4

Looks funky, doesn’t it? The Adidas 4DFWD 4 is the only mass-produced shoe in the world with a 3D-printed midsole, which explains the funkiness. The midsole is coded to help move you forward, absorb impact and deliver a smooth heel-to-toe transition. The upper – which isn’t 3D printed – offers a precise fit for exceptional comfort and stability. It’s great as an entry-level shoe for beginners who appreciate something made almost entirely from recyclable and renewable materials.

9. Adidas Supernova Rise 2

The Supernova Rise features adidas’ re-engineered super foam, Dreamstrike+, which is usually reserved for race day shoes. This daily trainer, however, manages to strike the ideal balance between support and comfort. The Rise’s sole is also filled with an intricate system of support rods which are bottom loaded to ensure neutral support – meaning it has more support in the heel than the forefoot and an upper that conforms to your foot shape. While the Supernova Rise’s extensive comfort features don’t exactly imply a great deal of pace or responsiveness, the shoe also offers plenty of speed.

Adidas’ trail running department isn’t as renowned or as prolific as its performance branch, but it has still produced a number of top trail shoes. The Terrex Agravic 3 is the best of the bunch. Featuring a lightweight yet robust design, it boasts a Continental Rubber outsole that provides reliable grip even in wet and uneven conditions. The shoe’s Lightstrike cushioning ensures a responsive, energy-filled ride, while the reinforced mesh upper offers breathability and protection against debris. Its midfoot support system and rock protection plate also make the Agravic 3 more than capable of tackling the most technical trails.

Built with a dual-density Lightstrike midsole, it boasts a combination of cushioning and responsiveness, ideal for both long-distance training and tempo runs. The engineered mesh upper enhances breathability while offering a snug fit that reduces friction during high-mileage efforts. The premier daily trainer in the Adidas stable, the Ultraboost 5 combines comfort and durability with rock solid performance. It’s one of the most versatile Adidas shoes and will perform well in practically any type of run thanks to its Boost midsole for advanced energy return, Primeknit+ upper for a breathable fit and Continental Rubber outsole for enhanced grip and durability.

5. Adidas Adizero Adios Pro 4

Adidas Adizero Adios Pro 4

SHOP NOW

The Adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 4 – have you ever said that many words starting with ‘adi’ in a single sentence before? – is the best Adidas race day shoe you’ll be able to get, but it’s not the brands best race day shoe. The Adios Pro 4 is inspired by the Adios Pro Evo 1, which is worn by pro athletes, but is only produced in very limited quantities.

The Adios Pro 4, then, is what you’ll want for race day. It’s carbon-plated and features Adidas’ EnergyRods 2.0, which are strategically embedded in the midsole to enhance propulsion and efficiency. The dual-layer Lightstrike Pro foam provides lightweight cushioning and unparalleled energy return. This shoe is seriously fast.

4. Adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 1

The Adizero Adios Pro Evo 1 was on the feet of three of the top four finishers in the 2024 Olympic men’s marathon, including the gold medallist. As Adidas says, the Pro Evo 1 is “Astonishingly light and shamelessly fast”. It’s the lightest marathon shoe ever created, and at just 138 grams, it’s 40 per cent lighter than anything else Adidas makes. Shoes have been cutting down on excess weight for years, but it usually comes at the expense of support. The Pro Evo 1 works around this with an enhanced rocker profile in the forefoot, which makes for a more comfortable feel and was proven to improve running economy.

So, if this is literally the world’s best racing shoe, why isn’t it higher on this list? Well, Adidas has only ever made a few thousand of them. They are typically reserved for top athletes rather than the general public, who have to settle for the similar Adios Pro 4.

3. Adidas Adizero Prime X2 Strung

Adidas Adizero Prime X 2 Strung

SHOP NOW

The Adizero Prime X2 Strung is a race day shoe that you aren’t allowed to use in a race. World Athletics prohibits the use of shoes with a stack height of more than 40mm and the Prime X 2 Strung’s stack height is 50mm. Not to matter, Adidas doesn’t mind and neither should you – if all you want is to hit a new PB, that is. Adidas proudly proclaims that the Prime X 2 Strung was “designed without the constraints of world race regulations”. That much is clear upon first glance, with three layers of Lightstrike Pro foam, a powerful energy core, and not one but two carbon plates in the midsole.

2. Adidas Adizero Boston 12

They’re quick, versatile and durable. Perfect for training for a marathon, or competing in a half marathon.

1. Adidas Adizero Evo SL

Adidas Adizero Evo SL

SHOP NOW

While it is technically on the lowest tier in the Adizero performance shoe family, the Evo SL is Adidas’ best shoe. It takes design cues from the other Adizero shoes and borrows many of their technical innovations, but if you want a race day shoe, there are better options at Adidas, because that’s not where the Evo SL is best utilised. The Evo SL takes all of the Adizero family’s performance capabilities and repositions them in a more durable frame that’s more fit for daily training but can move just as fast.

The Evo SL features Lightstrike Pro cushioning that delivers a responsive, energy-filled ride without sacrificing ground feel. The mesh upper is engineered for a race-day fit, with optimal comfort and minimal weight to enhance performance. This is the shoe to make us regular runners feel like athletes.
