With his enviable good looks and charismatic charm, it’s not hard to see why Henry Cavill is one of the most sought after actors in Hollywood. But while most actors rely on a gruelling workout routine to pump up or shred for a role, or simply demand the most from CGI and the costume department to bring their bulging biceps to the big screen, Cavill is rare in that he perpetually stays in incredible shape. His is a gym-honed physique that gives the appearance Superman really might exist in the real world, that he really might be there, working out alongside you, in the gym.
For those only just embarking on a fitness routine, the likes of Cavill and other Hollywood gym buffs can seem almost daunting. While comparison has known to be the thief of joy, it’s not so much that we look at their torsos with the desire to emulate such gains, but rather see the distance from one starting point to results as too much, too wide a gap to be achievable. Of course, for those who have put in the work the reality is that anything is possible where a strong work ethic is involved.
It makes Cavill’s approach to fitness a refreshing one. Recently, the actor sat down for an interview with bodybuilding.com where he answered a number of questions regarding fitness and health, before going on to provide some advice for those just starting out on their fitness journey.
When asked what the best fitness advice he could give someone is, Cavill advised beginners to be unafraid to approach fitness with their specific needs at the forefront. “Do it your way,” he said. “Get the right information, get the right knowledge from someone who knows their stuff. But also, do fitness your way – whatever you enjoy doing – and you’ll get the most out of it.”
Of course, Cavill didn’t stop there when it came to planting some grains of wisdom in the minds of his followers. When he was later asked what advice he would give to his younger self, he said he wished he would have gotten his head right for a challenge early on in his fitness journey. “It is not supposed to be easy. And with that kind of mindset going into workouts and training, I think I would have benefited from that enormously,” said the actor. “Everyone’s different – but I know as a young man myself, I would have benefited from that.”
Cavill also shared that if he had to choose between spending the rest of his life without the gym or without dessert, he’d more than happily wave goodbye to cakes and pies. Take it from someone who has put in the work to understand that exercise is the greatest gift we can give ourselves – not just physically, but mentally and emotionally too.
