New Balance Launches 'The Biggest Shakeout'

New Balance and Unofficial Run Club are hosting ‘The Biggest Shakeout’ before Sydney Marathon

The event will bring runners together for a 5km shakeout run, post-run celebrations and the chance to win entry into the New York City Marathon

IF YOU’RE SEARCHING for a last-minute tune-up ahead of the Sydney marathon, look no further. New Balance is teaming up with Unofficial Run Club to host The Biggest Shakeout, bringing together local running communities to warm-up, connect, refuel and have a chance at winning a bib and travel voucher for the New York City Marathon in November. 

The 5km shakeout run will kick off at 7am at Bradfield Park and cross the Harbour Bridge before finishing up at Watersedge at Campbells Store. Far from the end of the event, this is where the fun really begins.

At Campbells, attendees can expect to find a floor-to-ceiling bagel wall, coffee from Beforeyouspeak, and fresh juice and smoothies from Cali Press. Celebrity DJ Tigerlily (who is also a keen runner) will be on hand providing the soundtrack.

Exclusive race day goodie bags will also be handed out to the first 1,500 participants to sign up to the event. In them, you’ll find marathon essentials like caffeine, post-race fuel bars, temporary tattoos and more.

Here’s the kicker: one lucky runner will win a race bib for the 2025 New York City Marathon and a $3,000 travel voucher. To be in the running for the prize, visit the Unofficial Run Club website and submit a one-minute video answering the question: “How do you run your way?” Here’s a tip – the video should reflect your personal approach to the sport, whether it’s about community, overcoming challenges, or simply why you enjoy running.

Applications are open now and close at 5pm on the 27th of August. To win, you must attend The Biggest Shakeout, as the winner will be announced during the event.

With the 2025 Sydney Marathon set to be the first time Australia hosts a major, the nation is primed for a running takeover. Our advice? Get in on the action, even if you’re not running the marathon, and soak up the energy at events like The Biggest Shakeout.
