NOT EVEN A shoulder injury is stopping Sir Richard Branson from chasing his fitness goals in 2026. Taking to social media, the business mogul shared an image of himself training in his home gym on Necker Island in the British Virgin Islands. Shirtless and in impressive shape, Branson showed that he’s still keeping active despite the setback.
‘New Year workouts: Good arm is growing – but bad arm is shrinking! Thankfully shoulder recovery is going well,’ Branson wrote.
Picking up a shoulder injury
Branson sustained the injury in November while taking part in the annual Strive Challenge, a charity event founded by his children, Holly and Sam, alongside his nephew Noah. First launched in 2014, the inaugural challenge saw participants row, cycle, hike and climb their way from London to the Matterhorn in the Alps. Since then, the Strive Challenge has raised more than £8 million for education charity Big Change.
Just days before posting from the gym, Branson had been photographed with his arm in a sling after hitting a pothole while cycling in India, an accident that required medical attention. He later returned to the UK to receive treatment.
How Richard Branson approaches fitness
Branson has long prioritised health and fitness, often using the Strive Challenges as motivation. ‘For every Strive Challenge that followed [2014], I trained harder and harder and felt my body become stronger and stronger,’ he previously wrote. ‘Having a regular (and very intense) challenge to work towards knocked my body back into the shape it was in during my twenties.’
In 2017, Branson also revealed his mornings almost always begin with exercise. Whether it’s a game of tennis, a walk, a run, a bike ride or, weather permitting, kitesurfing, he makes the most of his Caribbean surroundings to stay active.
