17-Year-Old Schoolgirl Deadlifts 190 Kilograms

On the internet, everyone is awesome. Everyone warms up with more weight than you’ve ever seen lifted in a commercial gym.

And because they’re all so awesome, no accomplishment or body of work can ever be awesome enough to escape the internet’s dismissive scorn.

But every now and then, the internet collectively shifts out of douche mode to celebrate an otherwise obscure high point in someone else’s life.

So it is with this viral video (below) of Lee Winroth, a 17-year-old, 66-kilogram Swedish soccer player, in which she deadlifts 190 kilograms – nearly three times her body weight.

Had this been a clean lift in a sanctioned powerlifting meet, it would surpass the current world record of 175 kilograms, set earlier this year by an Alaska high schooler, who was several kilos heavier.

Winroth’s best deadlift in competition is 170 kilograms, which she accomplished in two meets earlier this year.

Perhaps most extraordinary of all: she’s a serious soccer player, a striker on the first-place team in Sweden’s second division, which means her team will be promoted to the highest women’s pro league next year.

What we find most endearing about Winroth’s video is what she does right after she drops the weight: she swears like a sailor.

I don’t know why a Swedish teenager would celebrate a world-record-territory lift by strafing the room with F-bombs. But it’s nice to know some sentiments need no translation.
