The 'Reacher' star shares some advice on the value of hard work, building healthy habits and why maintaining muscle is always easier than building it

ALAN RITCHSON has never been one to mince words, or miss an opportunity to post himself shirtless on social media. The Reacher star, whose granite-cut physique has become as valuable as his acting skills, took to Instagram this week to share what at first looked like another flex, but actually held some decent fitness advice.

“Not sure who needs to hear this,” begins the caption of the Instagram post. “But it’s a thousand times easier to maintain than it is to get there.” For anyone who’s ever fought their way into shape, it’s a statement that rings true. Building something from scratch demands more energy, sacrifice and patience than the maintenance ever will.

“If you’re still in the ‘rebuild yourself’ phase, just know there will come a time when your body starts doing a lot of the heavy lifting for you,” Ritchson continued. “One of the rewards for your hard work and dedication. Stay with it.”

For Ritchson, the words carry extra weight. His rise to leading-man status was built on physical discipline. Becoming Jack Reacher demanded months of training and thousands of calories. Yet even now, in the kind of shape most people would kill for, he’s still talking about rebuilding.

“I’m in a different kind of rebuild phase,” he added. “Unlearning bad habits and targeting weaknesses that plague me. Never too late to make a U-turn.” It’s a rare admission from someone whose career is built around strength. But it’s also what makes Ritchson relatable. He’s not presenting himself as finished or flawless, he’s acknowledging that progress evolves.

Ritchson’s post is a reminder that self-improvement doesn’t expire just because you’ve hit your goal. He’s a man who’s built his body into a weapon and his discipline into a career, but what he’s really preaching now is balance. And for those still in the rebuild phase his advice is clear: stay with it, because one day your discipline will start fighting for you.
