The Bizarre Cosmetic Procedure Making People Happier

For those battling the black dog, treatment may one day involve a visit to the dermatologist.

A single Botox injection may reduce the symptoms of depression by nearly half, according to a study published in the Journal of Psychiatric Research.

Participants in the study were given either a wrinkle-smoothing injection of Botox or a placebo injection in the “frown” muscles between their eyebrows.

Six weeks later, 52 per cent of the Botox patients reported significant mood improvement, compared with 15 per cent who received the placebo jab.

The Botox group also reported a 47 per cent decrease in depression symptoms, compared with a 21 per cent fall in the placebo group.

Smoothing out the muscles between your eyebrows can reduce distress signals to your brain, boosting mood as a result, says study author Dr Eric Finzi.

And since the shot doesn’t affect your forehead muscles, frozen face shouldn’t be a problem.
