Hospital Breaks Rules to Grant Dying Man His Final Wish | Men’s Health Magazine Australia

If people had a say in how they die, most would want to go out doing something they love.

Unfortunately, most if not all people do not get that luxury. But last week, an elderly man in Denmark got the chance to do just that.

After Carsten Flemming Hansen, 75, was told by doctors he was too sick for surgery and he only had a few days left to live before dying from internal bleeding following an aortic aneurysm, he asked to go out with a bang by doing the things he loved most.

And those things were smoking a cigarette and drinking a glass of cold white wine while watching the sunset. Carsten Hansen, you are a legend.

Nurses wheeled Hansen from his hospital room out onto a balcony where he had a final glass of wine while puffing away on a cigarette, breaking all the hospital’s rules and regulations in the process in front of a beautiful sunset.

One nurse, Rikke Kvist, said it was a very cozy and relaxed atmosphere, but the “relatives were also affected by the fact that he was going to die, and they were sad.”

The hospital shared a picture of Hansen to their Facebook page on Friday which has since gone viral, many people praising the hospital’s kindness and act of compassion.
