If you thought Aunt Flo would be enough to stop women from doing the deed, think again. A new survey has found that nearly one fifth of all women are having sex while on their period.

According to research conducted by period tracking phone app, Clue and the Kinsey Institute Condom Use Research Team, 15 per cent of women in their menstruation cycle kept the same sex routine up.

Polling 95,000 people over 200 countries, researchers also found that 48 per cent of women avoid sexual activity altogether while 41 per cent said they were only interested in satisfying their partner.

Interestingly, people who typically use condoms were more likely to go bareback if their female partner was on their period.

The study found that most people believe you can’t get pregnant while on your period. However because sperm can live in your body for up to five days, if you have sex towards the end of your cycle, there is a slim chance you can still get pregnant

The survey also found the most participants weren’t concerned about whether their partner may have an STD. Previous research has shown women on their periods are at higher risk of catching an STD.
