Despite your football allegiances, it’s an indisputable fact that David Beckham is one of the greatest athletes – yes, even years after his retirement. The poster boy for staying fit dads puts men half his age to shame and in an interview with The Project this weekend has revealed the secret behind his rig.

“You don’t have to go and spend a huge amount of money going to the gym,” Beckham explained to the panel.

So what does the football legend turn to these days to stay in top shape? Walking and biking apparently.

“Three or four times a week I walk my daughter to school instead of driving her, or she bikes home with me. It’s the little things that make a difference.”

While the admission may seem too good to be true for some fathers (Beckham is reportedly also a fan of workouts that burn 1000 calories in one hit), it seems that Becks is adhering to the new phenomenon of ‘fitness snacking’; getting in smaller bursts of exercise whenever possible, rather than longer more intense sessions.

“[Fitness snacking] involves short periods of exercise dotted throughout the day, rather than doing it all in one go,” says the UK’s self-professed leading trainer Matt Roberts. “Keep a tally in your head. I’ve walked the dog, that’s two points. I went for a 20-minute walk at lunchtime, that’s another two points.”

Beckham’s new approach to flexible fitness has been gaining traction due to its realistic parameters and the ability for most men to work it into their intense schedules. And for a man who has amassed millions upon millions of dollars, DB is surprisingly acutely aware of the struggles and limitations of the modern man.

‘It’s a struggle, when you get older, waking up in the morning, getting all the kids out of the door to school on time…’ he admitted of finding the time to workout.
