Naps Are Good For Your Health, According To Science

Time to hit the sack. At least that’s what an incredible new study wants us to do.

According to research out of Greece, a daytime siesta is great for your health. Another reason to cancel your day plans?

After collecting data from 212 people, scientists found that regular one hour naps could lower blood pressure – a major risk factor for heart diseases.

During the investigation, participants wore blood pressure monitors to track hypertension. At the end of the experiment, those who slept for one hour a day saw their blood pressure drop on average by 3mm Hg compared to those who skipped the snooze.

“Midday sleep appears to lower blood pressure levels at the same magnitude as other lifestyle changes. For example, salt and alcohol reduction can bring blood pressure levels down by 3 to 5 mm Hg,” said the study’s co-author, Dr Manolis Kallistratos.

“Based on our findings, if someone has the luxury to take a nap during the day, it may also have benefits for high blood pressure.”
